Is a New Need For Speed Game on The Way?

The Need for Speed franchise has been incredibly popular for a significant amount of time thanks to the accessible physics model and chaotic racing. In recent years, the series has lost its identity somewhat and didn’t evoke a strong reaction from fans. Of course, this could improve and it’s important for the franchise to go back to its roots. Saying that, the latest game is a step in the right direction and well worth checking out. Recently, EA applied for a trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office for the name, Need for Speed Arena. It seems likely that this is the early preparation for the latest entry in the series.

Of course, it’s difficult to gauge what kind of game this will become based on the name alone. Perhaps, the arena name is something to do with destruction derby gameplay or oval circuits. It’s pure speculation and I cannot wait to hear more. Honestly, I’m excited for a new Need for Speed title and pretty certain the trademark means it’s on the way. Granted, it’s probably an early stage and it could be some time until more details are revealed.
