Nvidia 417.22 WHQL Driver Improves BFV Ray Tracing

Nvidia 417.22 WHQL Driver

With the release of the Nvidia 20XX graphics cards earlier this year, ray tracing technology has certainly been one of the buzzwords of the industry. Sadly, we didn’t actually get to really try it out until a few weeks ago. This was thanks to the delay in the ‘October’ update to Windows 10. If you were not aware, the October update (which released in mid-November) contained the DirectX update to utilise ray tracing in games.

When we finally got to test it for ourselves though, I think it’s a fair assessment to say that the initial benchmarking results were not encouraging. Sure, ray tracing worked, but at a rather marked deterioration of performance.

Well, with the release of the Nvidia 417.22 driver, it is reported that performance should increase by anything up to 50%.

Why Such A Huge Increase?

Well, don’t forget that despite the 20XX cards being available for just over 2 months now, we have actually only had practical ‘full’ access to it just over 2 weeks. At least in terms of the ray tracing technology. As such, there was always bound to be some teething problems. With the release of the new updated driver, it’s going to be curious to see just how much better this has got. As above though, Nvidia suggest that the improvement can be anything up to 50%. That’s quite a margin if true!

Where Can I Get It?

If you have a Nvidia graphics card, you presumably have the GeForce Experience installed. As such, you should have already received a prompt to update your graphics card driver.

If you are not prompted to update the driver automatically, you can download it via the link here!

What do you think? Do you have a Nvidia 20XX graphics card? Have you tried out any of the ray tracing features? In addition, have they improved for you since the update? – Let us know in the comments!
