We saw the return of MadCatz and their R.A.T. gaming mouse line at CES 2018 earlier this year. Now this new range is officially launched with four different models to chose from. This includes the R.A.T.4+, R.A.T.6+,R.A.T.8+ and R.A.T. Pro S3.
“Since announcing our comeback earlier in the year, gamers have inundated us with requests for new R.A.T. mice,” says Selena Chang, Director of Sales and Operations for Mad Catz Global. “We’ve been working hard to ensure the new products do justice to the incredible Mad Catz legacy and we’re delighted to start shipping the first products in the new range,” she adds. Like the previous R.A.T. mice range, it offers “superb value and unsurpassed quality” for all budgets and gaming abilities.
Even though it is an entry level model, the R.A.T. 4+ features OMRON switches with a 20 million click lifetime. Furthermore, it uses a PixArt PMW3330 optical sensor and has multi-zone backlighting.
The R.A.T.6+ is a step above and has an even longer OMRON switch lifetime rating at 50 million clicks. Additionally, there are nine programmable buttons in all plus an adjustable palm rest. Gamers even have access to a removable weight system, so they can tailor the R.A.T.6+ to their play style. Lastly, MadCatz uprades the backlighting to an RGB LED version, so users have over 16 million colour combinations to choose from.
The top end version is the new R.A.T.8+, which has all the features of the R.A.T.6+ but with an adjustable thumb rest, PixArt PMW3389 optical sensor and up to 18g of removable weights. The RGB LED lighting is also upgraded with three stages, plus onboard memory that allows users to save up to three profiles and macro preset saving onboard.
The last option is the R.A.T. Pro S3 which is an “essential” mouse for pro gamers. It has the same PMW3330 as the R.A.T.4+, but it upgrades the OMRON switches to a 50 million click lifetime. The mouse also has an adjustable palm rest that can tilt +/- 15 degrees and extend as far as 12mm from the body. It also has the MadCatz Chameloen RGB LED lighting, so this is somewhat a mid-way option between the R.A.T.4+ and R.A.T.6+.
