Shenmue was perhaps one of Sega’s best games ever released. At the very least, beyond the blue hedgehog, it probably has one of the most loyal fanbases. It was, therefore, something of a tragedy that the games released on Sega’s ill-fated consoles. A game of this quality deserved better.
With a Kickstarter successfully raised, Shenmue 3 is on the way to hopefully complete the series and as part of a release, the developer has revealed 4 new screenshots from the game.
When launched on Kickstarter, Shenmue 3 was a massive success. In a report via DSOGaming, raising over $6m it broke two Guinness World Records.
It clearly showed that fans of the series desperately wanted the story to be concluded and even if you have never played the game, I’m sure most can relate with that.
The game, currently being developed/produced by Deep Silver and YsNet has not been without its concerns. For many, the development cycle has been a little slow for their liking. The Kickstarter, after all, did conclude in 2015. Since then we have seen very little of the game, but these 4 screenshots at least give us an insight.
The deal for Deep Silver to publish the game was a major coup and a step in the right direction. One which has given fans hope.
While exact release details are not known, it is thought that Shenmue 3 will certainly release on Xbox and PS4 with a PC release also expected.
As for the when, it’s hard to say. Fans were hoping it would be 2018, that, however, looks exceptionally unlikely. 2019, however, might not be a bad shout.
