A New Sonic Game is Coming and it Actually Looks Good!

Brace yourselves, but SONIC FORCES is in early alpha, and the screenshots and video footage are looking impressive. Could this be the Sonic game we’ve been waiting for ages for? The adrenaline-soaked trailer would suggest YES!

While researching this article, I was initially under the impression that Sonic games were a moderate rarity over the last 10-15 years and therefore was a little bit more forgiving of the franchise despite it’s notoriously awful ‘Sonic The Hedgehog 2006’. I was however resigned to the fact that Sonic was the whipping boy Sega occasionally wheeled out to try and turn a quick buck.

I was amazed to find that there has in fact been loads of Sonic games – Would you believe nearly FIFTY games since 2000 have featured Sonic as a bit or starring role? I certainly didn’t! – Have any of them been good? I can’t honestly say I’ve played all of them, but of those that I have played the vast majority were sub-par and sadly the best of them are more spin-offs with little to no relevance to the original games.

However, could all of this be about to change? SONIC FORCES could very well be the saviour of the series.

Featuring a whole brand new engine (“Hedgehog Engine 2”) details have been released which are truly impressive and give hope that this will be the Sonic game we’ve been waiting for.

With a release planned for the Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch, it seems that this may be an all or nothing attempt by Sega to break Sonic back into the mainstream.

By either poor design, bad implementation or ‘what were they thinking?!’ levels of madness – I’d like to think that Sonic, as a franchise, might perhaps deserve a good game, even if it’s just a last hoorah and maybe perhaps the character might deserve it slightly more than the long-suffering fans.

At the moment, the game is in early alpha and details are sketchy at best, but what we have looks great, the news coming out is encouraging, and the trailer looks brilliant.

SONIC FORCES – Scheduled for release Q3/Q4 2017 – XBox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch.
