New Trailer for Sci-Fi Epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets Released

The upcoming movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets from The Fifth Element director Luc Besson has released their second teaser trailer, showing some incredible visuals and promising some fun sci-fi adventures as only the famed French director can bring. So far the trailer looks and feels like The Fifth Element (1997) more so than Besson’s last sci-fi outing in Lucy (2014). It is colorful, crazy and filled with some out-of-this-world spectacle directly inspired by the beloved 1967 French graphic Novel by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières. Fans of this classic graphic novel went on to inspire countless more in the sci-fi and comic book world.

In the 28th century, Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha—an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.

Aside from directing the Valerian movie, Besson also co-wrote the screenplay. It stars Dane DeHaan as Valerian himself and Cara Delavingne as Laureline. It also stars Clive Owen, Rihanna, Rutger Hauer, Ethan Hawke, John Goodman and more.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets hits theaters on July 21, 2017.
