Microsoft is freaking out, and with good reason. The recently leaked NSA hacking tools – subsequently used to build Windows-targeted ransomware WannaCry – wreaked havoc since May. Even Windows 10 fell victim. The Redmond company responded with preventative updates, but they’re no good unless users install them. To wit, Microsoft is not taking ‘no’ for an answer. If you’re a Windows 10 user who is yet to install the Creators Update, prepare to get nagged.
Microsoft’s tough love manifests as a nagware warning to Windows 10 version 1507 users. A pop-up informs you that your operating system is now “end of service”. As such, it is no longer eligible for monthly security updates. One button allows you to upgrade to the Creators Update. Another lets you delay the upgrade. You can only postpone the process five times, though. What happens after the fifth delay, however, is as yet unknown. Is Microsoft planning to force upgrade copies of Windows 10 version 1507? Either way, Microsoft is telling users that mother knows best and that you’d better listen.
“If you’re currently running Windows 10 version 1507, you’ll receive a notification that your device needs the latest security updates and will attempt to update your device. Windows 10 version 1507 is currently at end of service, which means devices running these operating systems will no longer receive the monthly security and quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats. To continue receiving security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends updating to the latest version of Windows 10.
Click on Update now on the notification to update your device.”
