Newegg Leaks AMD RX 480 Clock Speeds

Until AMD released the shader count for the RX 480, everyone was throwing around wild guesses as to the clock speed. Some rumours pegged it as low as 850 Mhz while others threw in their bet with the range of Maxwell/Pascal. After revealing that the new Polaris 10 GPU would have 2304 shader cores and 5 TFLOPS+ of performance, the predictions moved to around 1200Mhz. For the first time ever, we’re getting a strong leak that confirms what we’ve seen so far.

According to popular retailer Newegg, the RX 480 will feature a stock base clock of 1120 MHz and a boost clock of 1266 MHz, exactly where other leaks have pointed too. It’s interesting to see that AMD is listing a base clock as well for the card. Generally, AMD only lists the peak clock speed, with only the R9 270/270X and R9 280/280X having both a boost and base clock officially confirmed.

At 1266 Mhz, base, the rumoured easy overclocks to 1500 Mhz seem much easier to believe. This means potential GXT 980Ti levels of performance overclocked and if custom cards are pushed even further, maybe even stock GTX 1070 levels. With reviews less than a week away, I can’t wait to see how much room AMD has left on the table. Perhaps there will be an RX 480X later on, with only a few more shaders but clocked much faster?
