Next Street Fighter V DLC Character Delayed

In their quest to continually improve their flagship fighting game, Capcom has been providing players of the game with a continuous flow of free DLC characters to flesh out the roster with characters that may not have made the cut the first time around. The fan-favourite Guile and wrestler Alex have already made it into the game, following Capcom’s model of releasing new DLC every month. Now, despite having shown off the trailer for the next upcoming character, Ibuki, it has also been revealed that her release will be later on in June, leaving May without a DLC release. According to Capcom’s Japanese site, this means that Ibuki’s release will be rolled into the already planned DLC launch for June, which instead of a character is a cinematic story mode set to be ready towards the end of the month.

Ibuki made her debut in Street Fighter III: Third Strike who also returned in Street Fighter IV with all the tricks you’d expect from a ninja in training, from kunai to smoke bombs and more. From the trailer, she certainly seems to still be on form, packing a number of rather pointy tricks up her sleeve and backing it all up with plentiful agility with poor Guile left to take a beating so we can see her in action.

Unfortunately for Capcom, the delays to Ibuki may cause some to question Capcom’s commitment to their plans to support the game and community, as they gave no information throughout May that the DLC would be pushed back until it was clearly far too late for it to release. Considering Street Fighter V’s rough start, I’m sure many would prefer Capcom take their time to make the game the best it can be, but keeping the community in the dark does them no favors either. Hopefully, we can expect a statement on the subject from Capcom soon.
