Following its release in March, the Nintendo Switch has been one of the major success stories of the year. Following on from the tepid failure of the Wii-U, the Switch has smashed all expectations and has become one of the ‘must-have’ consoles.
It’s clear to say that Nintendo is back on form. In a similar Nintendo form, however, supply has been very limited. Even now, over 6 months on from the release, actually getting your hands on a Switch is still rather tricky.
With Mario Odyssey shaking the formula up (in an awesome way) and Rocket League due for release, demand for the Switch is set to spike again in the rush to Christmas.
While Nintendo may not have met the demand this year, they promise next year will be different.
In a report via CNET, Nintendo has finally decided to answer the demand. They have announced plans for the release of around 25 million switch consoles in 2018.
This might, finally, start meaning that supply has caught up to demand. That isn’t to say that Nintendo doesn’t have the habit of limiting supply to create a false demand, it will, for many, be good news.
In fairness to Nintendo, given the poor cycle of the Wii-U, perhaps they were not expecting such demand. Switch sales have, amazing, within just 6 months, already eclipsed the entire sales the Wii-U managed in its entire lifespan.
While you may still struggle to get a Switch for Christmas, at least next year is looking better. If you need an endorsement, I’ll give you one right now. I have one and the Switch is awesome!
