Nintendo Confirms NX for March 2017

As one of three remaining console makers, Nintendo has been closely watched since the lacklustre Wii U launched. It’s no surprise then when rumours popped out about an upcoming new console, as it is time for the Wii U to be replaced. In a very quite manner, Nintendo has confirmed the code-name for the console as “NX” and even better, that it will arrive in March 2017, a little under a year from now.
“For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed “NX” with a brand-new concept. NX will be launched in March 2017 globally.”
Unfortunately, the year-long wait won’t be broken by any product reveals anytime soon. Even with all the leaks out now, we won’t be getting an official glimpse of the console at E3 2016 in June. For now, we will have to guess at what the “brand new concept” really means but there have been some hints so far about a portable console. With a new Polaris 14nm GPU, the NX will have a chance to surpass current-gen consoles.
In the past, Nintendo consoles like the Wii and Wii U have relied on their quirky nature to be successful but the use of an AMD SoC may finally level the playing field. It remains to be seen if the NX will beat the PS4 Neo and Xbox One refreshes to market.
