Nintendo Switch fans have been waiting for the arrival of the official battery pack extender for the console, but Nintendo decided to release a battery pack accessory for the Joy-con controller itself for some reason. The Nintendo Switch’s 4,310mAh lithium-ion cell battery lasts between 2.5 to six hours depending on the graphics requirement so a battery pack extender for it only makes sense and will definitely fly off the shelves immediately if announced. As for the Joy-con controller, Nintendo says that its battery can last up to 20 hours on a single charge which sounds like it does not need any battery pack extender of any sort unless you want to do a marathon gaming session. That means the user has to recharge the Nintendo Switch itself 4x or 8x before the Joycon batteries even require a single charge. Even so, Nintendo decided that this is needs a battery extender moreso than the actual Switch device.
The extended battery packs will be sold in a set of two, one for each controller. Each battery pack appears to be running on AA batteries. Nintendo did not disclose how much more these extenders provide in terms of battery life but the fact that they are AA batteries suggest any similar sized battery can be used to replace it later on. Aside from the Joy-con extended battery pack, Nintendo is also adding a Neon Yellow color starting June 16.
