The demand for the mini-NES games console has not waned despite Nintendo announcing that they are discontinuing it to the dismay of many classic gamers. However, according to sources close to Eurogamer, Nintendo has plans to release a mini-version of their Super Nintendo Entertainment System soon which is why they opted to discontinue the mini-NES games console. The target date for launch is supposedly right around Christmas 2017.
The mini-SNES games console system is expected to come pre-loaded with games like the mini-NES console, so the user does not have to fiddle around and blow on cartridges to play. It begs the question of what games will be included, however. The mini-NES console was released with 30 games pre-loaded which included the best-selling classics such as all three Super Mario Brothers, Mega-man 2, Metroid, Donkey Kong, PAC-MAN, The Legend of Zelda, Castlevania, Punch-Out and more. For the Mini-Super Nintendo, the Nintendo staple title characters will sure make the cut including Super Mario Kart (8.76 million units sold) and Super Mario World (20.6 million units sold) but hopefully, Nintendo decides to include a lot more titles than 30 this time.
There are also recent rumours of Nintendo releasing a miniature Nintendo Switch, their latest handheld games console. The latest console has sold nearly 1 million units in the US alone and is projected to sell over 25.7 million units worldwide by 2019. Like the mini-NES and mini-SNES consoles, the miniature console is much more affordable and expected to sell even more units in more markets than the full-size Switch.
