Nintendo NX Revealed - Has a New Name

It’s finally here. Nintendo has unveiled its new NX console, and it’s called the Nintendo Switch. It seems the key rumours were all true: the Switch is a home/portable hybrid console with detachable controllers and cartridge-based games.

“Introducing Nintendo Switch!” Nintendo says. “In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.”

Sadly, the video doesn’t give us any details about the screen resolution, processor, or graphical power. That information may well be on the Nintendo website but that is, at the time of writing, down. The Video does, however, show the Switch playing a number of games, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, plus Splatoon and Mario Kart, presumably digital versions of the Wii U games.

Before the big reveal, Nintendo also released a new trailer for Breath of the Wild, which shows Link swimming, hang-gliding, and snowboarding around a glorious representation of Hyrule. Breath of the Wild is set to be an NX launch title – with a simultaneous release on the Wii U – in March 2017.
