We know nothing concrete about Nintendo’s forthcoming console, the NX. We think that the NX will be a portable/home hybrid console which will feature detachable controllers, a built-in 720p screen, and will take game cartridges. With the console expected for release in March 2017, it feels as though Nintendo is dragging its heels on revealing its new hardware. The wait, though, will soon be over, if new reports from the Wall Street Journal [paywalled] are to be believed.
According to the WSJ, Nintendo will “release NX details” around the start of October so, by this time next month, we could know exactly what to expect from the console.
Nintendo claims to have learned its lesson from its failure to properly publicise and support its previous console, the Wii U, with Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, revealing that the company plans to make it clear exactly what the NX is, what it does, and support it with notable launch titles within the first six months of its release.
“One of the things that we have to do better when we launch the NX–we have to do a better job communicating the positioning for the product,” Fils-Aime told GameSpot last month. “We have to do a better job helping people to understand its uniqueness and what that means for the game playing experience.”
“We have to do a better job from a software planning standpoint to have that continuous beat of great new games that are motivating more and more people to pick up the hardware and more and more people to pick up the software,” he added.
