Nintendo Responds to Switch Joy-Con Connectivity Concerns

Nintendo’s new console, the home/portable hybrid the Switch, is in the wild – alongside a universally-lauded new Zelda game – and its reception has been mostly positive. One early niggle that has bothered a handful of owners, though, is a particular issue with the Switch’s detachable controllers, known as Joy-Cons. The left Joy-Con in particular has had notable issues due to the internal position of its Broadcom Bluetooth transceiver.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé has now addressed this concern, claiming that, while Nintendo is aware of the issue, very few customers have complained directly to the company.

“[W]e’ve seen the inquiries, and we here in the Americas are looking at all the information we can get our hands on,” Fils-Aimé told Time. “We are in the early days of a system launch, and so for us, we want as much consumer feedback as possible. We are directing consumers to contact us through Nintendo Support for any and all potential questions they may have.”

“Specifically on Joy-Con syncing, all I can tell you is that we are aware of and have seen some of the reports. We’re asking consumers a lot of questions,” he added. “That’s why we want to get consumers on our help line, so we can get as much information to understand the situation as possible. And so we are in a fact-finding mode, to really understand the situation and the scenarios. And with that information, we’ll look and see what the next steps are.”

In a follow-up statement to Time, a Nintendo spokesperson added, “The number [of Joy-Con replacement or repair requests received] is not significant, and is consistent with what we’ve seen for any new hardware we have launched.”
