Nintendo has slowly become more open-minded about mobile gaming and has seen the financial benefits it can deliver thanks to a huge audience. You only need to look at the extraordinary success of Pokemon GO to see how profitable Nintendo’s mobile division is becoming. Of course, they don’t want to alienate the core console audience and ensured that remains their main focus. Some time ago, Nintendo announced Super Mario Run during an Apple keynote. This was a major surprise and it seems Nintendo is forging a close relationship with Apple for the foreseeable future. The company’s latest press release states the official release date will be December 15th and accessible to users running iOS 8.0 or higher.
Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing said about the new game:
“The wait is almost over for a Super Mario game that can be played on mobile devices,”
“Developed under the direction of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, Super Mario Run brings a new take on the series’ beloved action-platforming gameplay to iPhone and iPad for the first time.”
Super Mario Run can be downloaded for free so players can get a taste of what’s involved. However, the full experience requires a one-time payment of $9.99 or your regional equivalent. Once this amount has been paid, users will be granted unlimited access to each of the three modes.
Do you think the $9.99 price point is fair?
