Nintendo Switch 2 Battery Life Estimated to Be Lower Than the Original
The official details about Nintendo Switch 2 reveal the estimated battery life of the new console, and it seems that it could be lower than the original Nintendo Switch. This is based on available information, but the estimates are quite vague as battery consumption can vary depending on many factors, especially when it comes to a gaming console. Therefore, it is hard to give exact numbers, but what Nintendo has shared points to a shorter battery life compared to previous models.
Battery Life Estimate for Nintendo Switch 2
According to the details, the battery on the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to last between 2 and 6.5 hours. However, this can change depending on the games being played and how the console is used, with some conditions causing the battery to drain faster than others. Nintendo has also specified that the Switch 2 battery will use 5220 mAh lithium-ion cells, and it cannot be removed independently. Any battery replacement will need to be done through Nintendo’s customer support.
While this battery duration might sound reasonable, it seems slightly underpowered for the demands of Nintendo Switch 2’s hardware. Compared to the original Switch, this new model seems to have slightly lower battery life.
Comparison with Other Models
To give some perspective, the battery life of the original Nintendo Switch (models starting with “XA”) was estimated to last from 2.5 to 6.5 hours. This is close to the expected range of the new Switch 2. On the other hand, the Switch Lite had an estimated battery life of 3 to 7 hours, while the Switch OLED and the Switch with serial numbers starting with “XK” offered 4.5 to 9 hours of battery life.
In short, it seems that Nintendo Switch 2 has taken a step back in terms of battery life, with estimates that are lower than those of the latest models of the original Switch.
Apart from battery details, we also learned that the charging time for the Switch 2 will be around 3 hours, assuming the console is left in rest mode. Additionally, old accessories for the current Switch will be compatible with the new console.
