Nintendo Switch Could Have Plethora of Add-On Hardware and VR

While Nintendo is making us wait until 12th January for more official information on its new console, the Nintendo Switch, the company’s President, Tatsumi Kimishima, has revealed that the hardware is set to include a host of add-on peripherals, which may or may not include VR.

“It may be appropriate to call them accessories. Or it might be better to call them add-on hardware,” Kimishima told Bloomberg. “It’s probably more correct to call them accessories. You can assume that there will be a wider array.”

During the interview, Kimishima added that Nintendo is “interested in VR,” but is not yet committed to integrating the technology with the Switch. “If you ask us whether there are any possibilities, we can’t say no,” he said. “It may be that we will build VR software titles, I think that opportunity is available to us.”

Kimishima said, referring to the recent trailer, “By no means was that everything.” He added, “One thing we still can’t show is the software lineup. We want people to touch the device in January and experience the software for themselves,” casting doubt on both the Skyrim: Special Edition and 3D Mario game clips in the trailer as genuine Switch titles.

Could we be set for a plethora of add-on peripherals for the Nintendo Switch, similar to those featured in the fan concept art above (courtesy of Ryan Salamanda)? Let’s hope so.
