Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed that the company has not completely ruled out the notion of running streaming media services such NetFlix, Hulu and Amazon Prime on their latest hand-held console. In an interview with Washington Post, Fils-Aime has mentioned that they are currently in talks with various services to bring media streaming to the Nintendo Switch but reaffirms that their priority is and always will be gaming.
“What I would say is this: We built the Nintendo Switch to be a world-class gaming device, meaning we want you first and foremost to play games on the system and have an incredibly fun experience. We’re talking to a range of companies about other services, companies like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon — things that will come in time. In our view, these are not differentiators. What differentiates us is the way you play with the Nintendo Switch and what you can play. And that will continue to be our focus into the future as we continue driving this platform.” says Fils-Amie.
Nintendo initially dismissed the idea of having such streaming services on the NVIDIA powered Switch, but many fans have voiced their displeasure with the decision, especially considering all other consoles and even the Nintendo Wii U had NetFlix app.
