Despite the PS5 and Xbox Series X release late last year, the Nintendo Switch is still doing remarkably well in terms of sales. This is, of course, in no small part due to the fact that getting hold of one of Microsoft’s or Sony’s new consoles (at a reasonable price) is still harder than getting a pint at your local.
For over a year though, there have been many rumors suggesting that, sooner or later, Nintendo would look to release an improved version of the Switch. And following a report via Videocardz, some insider information has suggested some of what we might be able to expect!
As the first part of the supposed insider information, we have claims that the main Switch screen on the ‘Pro’ version will be upgraded to a 7″ 720p OLED display. More interesting, however, is the news that through the utilization of Nvidia DLSS, the ‘Pro’ console will be capable of displaying on TVs in 4K resolution. Quite a significant improvement on the standard version of the console, which only goes up to 1080p.
Applying some 4K compatibility has always seemed like the most logical progression for any ‘improved’ Nintendo Switch model. However, through the utilization of Nvidia’s DLSS technology, this may be achievable without the need for any notable hardware upgrades. A factor that would, effectively, make the Nintendo Switch ‘Pro’ a viable 4K gaming console without the need for a significantly greater manufacturing process/cost.
With it rumored to be announced this Summer, the short version is that we suspect that this news is probably true. And if it is, well, Nintendo can undoubtedly expect to squeeze a fair few more sales out the system!
