Nintendo Switch Sales Drop, President Says It’s Not Due to Fans Waiting for Switch 2

Sales of Nintendo Switch have dropped significantly in recent times. Many wonder if this decline is due to gamers holding off on purchases while waiting for the Nintendo Switch 2. However, according to Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, that is not the case.
Nintendo Responds to Sales Decline
Nintendo has acknowledged that it did not meet its sales targets for the Switch in 2024. The company revised its financial forecasts as console sales fell by 30%, and software sales for the Switch also declined. Speaking to investors after the announcement, Furukawa dismissed the idea that anticipation for the Switch 2 is the reason behind the drop in sales.
“We don’t believe the impact of people holding off on purchases [due to the Switch 2] is that significant,” Furukawa stated, as reported by the Japanese newspaper The Sankei Shimbun. “We believe this is a solid eighth year, but we did not reach our goal.”
Declining Sales Expected for Older Consoles

It is also important to note that it is normal for a console’s sales to decline after being on the market for eight years, even if it has been highly successful. Nintendo Switch sales have been decreasing since reaching their peak in 2022. Despite this decline, the results remain impressive, with over 150 million units sold since launch.
The drop in sales might raise concerns about the future of the console. Many wonder if the Switch will continue to receive new games after the launch of the Switch 2, though it remains to be seen.
