Happy birthday to the Nintendo Switch as today (March 3rd) it has turned 1 year old!
We, therefore, look at the Nintendo Switch and see how in that short year, it may have completely turned around the future of Nintendo.
A much-needed success
Prior to the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo was in something of a mild crisis. Sales of their handheld consoles were drying up and the failure of the Wii-U left the company desperate for a success.
What Nintendo needed to do was mixed things up and ironically it was almost a technology combination of the Wii and Wii-U which led to the Switch.
Why the Switch was a success
The Switch did something that Nintendo does best, it innovated while keeping things familiar. Unlike the Wii-U as well, the Switch had a much stronger release library of games. It has also in recent months seen a significantly higher number of 3rd party games released on the system. Something that has always been a difficulty for Nintendo.
Between Zelda, Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 and Bayonetta 2, the Nintendo Switch in just it’s first year already has an impressive ‘must-play’ catalog.
The future of the Switch
Despite a very Strong first year, Nintendo shows no signs of slowing down, The Labo’s interactive style of play as well as further major releases planned for the year could make the Switch become Nintendo’s best ever console.
Given that the Switch has already outsold the entire lifetime sales of the Wii-U and has for several months sold more than PS4 or Xbox Consoles, the future is bright for Nintendo and they are official, back in business.
