Nintendo has taken back the recent Splatoon 3 World Championship win after finding racist remarks made by members of the winning team, Jackpot.
Team Jackpot’s Win Nullified
In April, the USA team Jackpot won the Splatoon 3 World Championship, earning an in-game banner. However, racist messages from some team members surfaced online. Nintendo noticed and took action.
“It has come to our attention that certain members of team Jackpot, the team that recently won the Splatoon 3 World Championship, acted in a manner that is not in line with our Community Guidelines while playing the Splatoon 3 game. As a result, team Jackpot’s win will be considered vacated, and the team will not receive trophies associated with the event, Nintendo said.
Nintendo did not detail the behavior but linked it to community guideline violations. The company will remove Jackpot’s in-game banner in an upcoming update.
No New Winner Announced
Nintendo has not announced a new winner. The Japanese team, Phantom Thief of the Heart, lost to Jackpot in the final. It remains unclear if they will receive the title.
“Nintendo cares deeply about our players and our community, and we take our responsibility to uphold our Community Guidelines seriously,” said Nintendo.
The racist messages circulated online in early June. Videos and screenshots showed team members using racist slurs in Discord messages and calls.
