Nintendo Wins Lawsuit Against Piracy Site

Nintendo has been in the news a lot lately over legal issues and today has seen the company win a lawsuit against share hosting website operator Dstorage involving pirated games.

Nintendo Wins Privacy Lawsuit

As reported by Gamesindustry.biz, Nintendo took the share hosting website operator Dstorage to court over claims that the website “was liable for failing to remove or block access to pirate copies of Nintendo games distributed via file hosting website 1fichier.com.” The Paris Court of Appeals decided to side with Nintendo over the case and has ordered Dstorage to pay €442,750 in compensation to Nintendo which Dstorage also has the option to appeal. This isn’t the first time Nintendo has taken Dstorage to court as they had previously done so over the same issue back in 2021 and also received the same verdict.

Victory Against Piracy

Nintendo has declared this a victory and states it “sends a clear message” to those distributing pirated games and is good news for the games industry as a whole. Piracy is a grey area as it costs the game industry vast amounts of money, however, some may argue that, especially in Nintendo’s case, there are many older games that simply cannot be purchased through legal means anymore making piracy the only option.

This case is a nice change as the lawsuit was mostly justified, unlike the previous two articles about Nintendo enforcing its law.
