No Man’s Sky may very well be one of the worst launches in modern gaming history. Not only did the game sell a huge amount of copies after one of the biggest hype trains we’ve ever seen, but most of those sales were also very quickly refunded as the game failed to deliver on many features and aspects that were promised along the way.
Now it seems that British watchdog, The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is stepping in to investigate the developers of No Man’s Sky and the game’s marketing campaign. This is no doubt due to the huge differences between the materials used to promote the game and what was seen in the finished product.
You only have to take a look at the gameplay videos Hello Games were using on their Steam page to see how great the game looked, or at least, how it should have looked. The gameplay, visuals and even space battles in the trailers were either completely different or not present at all in the finished product.
Naturally, the ASA doesn’t comment on their investigations, but we’re certainly we’ll be hearing something one way or the other in the not too distant future when the investigation is complete.
