No Man’s Sky Suffers From Rough PC Release

Gamers all over the world have been anxiously awaiting space adventure game No Man’s Sky for years now, and while PS4 players may have got their hands on the game a few days earlier than their PC gaming counterparts, PC gamers have more than just a later release to be disappointed about. The issues range from poor performance and crashing to players getting stuck and the results have been clearly visible on the Steam page for the store, with over half of those who bought the game already giving it a negative review and pushing it into the realms of “mostly negative”.

According to numerous reports from players online, the game is experiencing crashes immediately upon startup, massive frame-rate drops, stuttering and jumping, crashes and screen tearing, regardless of settings. This has led to many users marking the game as unplayable on a range of hardware from the bare minimum asked by Hello Games (an Intel i3 processor, 8GB of RAM and an nVidia GTX 480), but even on massively over-specced machines running multiples of nVidia’s strongest cards.

Hello Games have been quick on the uptake and within half an hour had already released a patch to address a number of the initial launch issues plaguing players, however most players haven’t reported any performance improvements as a result of the patch and it may simply just be a fix for some of the startup issues. While the studio is still working on additional patches for the game’s problems and have released a troubleshooting post on the official site blog that gives players some suggestions for fixing their problems and an email address to contact if they are still having difficulties.

With the complexity of No Man’s Sky and the large variety of PC hardware out there, it’s easy to see how the game would suffer issues upon its release, but with such critical issues out of the game, will No Man’s Sky on PC be able to recover in time or forever be branded as a bad PC port?
