Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard has confirmed that Fallout 1 and 2 will not be getting remakes or console ports anytime soon. In a recent interview with the MrMattyPlays YouTube channel, Howard explained that while he loves the original games, there are no plans to revisit them for modern consoles.
Focus on Availability
Howard emphasized that Bethesda’s main priority is ensuring the original versions of Fallout and Fallout 2 are available and run well on modern hardware. He stated, “Look, I love the question and agree with a lot of what you said, but the main priority for us is to make sure they’re available.”
Preserving the Original Charm
Howard also expressed concerns about updating the games, fearing it might strip away some of their unique charm. “I think some of the charm of games from that era, and the original Fallouts, is a little bit of that age,” he noted. Howard believes that experiencing the games as they were originally designed is important, and modernizing them could detract from their original appeal.
Bethesda continues to focus on making sure these classic titles are accessible, rather than investing resources into remakes or ports. Fans of the series can still enjoy Fallout 1 and 2 in their original form, preserving the nostalgic experience that defined the early Fallout games.
