The noblechairs ICON Gaming Chair is available from Overclockers UK. It’s not cheap, but the old phrase of you get what you pay for rings very loud here. I’ve been through a lot of office chairs, often replacing them within 12 to 18 months due to wear and tear. I’ve been using noblechairs for well over a year now, and it’s still 100% in excellent condition, and I can’t see the ICON being any different from the EPIC in that regard.
The ICON is available in a range of colours and materials. It starts at £295 for the model we reviewed, up to £330 dependant on your colour combination. However, if you’re not interested in the lovely PU Leather, you can get Top Grain Leather, the real freaking deal, but expect to pay another £200 for the privilege.
I’m a big fan of noblechairs, and rightly so. They may come at a premium that will have your wallet shaking in a corner. However, cry at the checkout, and sing and dance on delivery day. Once you get the chair built, rolled under your desk, and placed firmly under your backside, all will be forgiven. The durable quality and finish of these chairs should easily last you many times more than those £99 jokers you find on Amazon and eBay. noblechairs agree too, which is why they provide an encouraging two-year warranty.
Regardless of which material you choose, the noblechairs are all built to the same high standard. I’ve used the real leather ones, and they’re absolutely lovely. However, the PU leather hardly feels like second best once you’re sat in it. The finish feels a little different and smells a little different, but it’s up to you if that’s worth another £200.
From headrest to the wheels, every component is incredibly durable and well made. The detailing on the stitching is perfect, the seams on the leather are nice and tight, and the whole chair feels like you could throw it down the stairs and it’ll still come away intact. Not that I suggest you do so, the chairs so heavy, you’ll likely break the stairs. The quality of the wheels is great too, and despite the 30KG weight of the chair, it’ll glide over your hard floors or carpet with grace; perfect for office jousting tournaments.
I’m not about to trade in my EPIC anytime soon, not even for the ICON. If I had money to pick one right now, I would go with the ICON, but purely on an aesthetic approach, which is subjective anyway. They’re both incredible chairs and feel about the same to me when you’re sat at your desk. I will admit, the ICON is more forgiving to those with shorter legs and those with a wider body, so that’s something to take into consideration when ordering. Short of spending twice as much to get some executive office chair, you’re not going to beat what either of these chairs has to offer.
