Noontec TerraMaster F2-220 2-Bay SMB Cloud Storage NAS Review

Setup – Network Services

Now that we got our basic users, groups, and shared folders created, it is time to take a look at the ways we can connect to the NAS, its network services.

Network Service

The first thing we come to are the general network settings such as the device’s name and the port for this administration interface.

The next page would allow us to bond network ports if there were more than one, but there isn’t on this NAS. However, we can also edit our LAN settings from here and change the sequence of available connections. The last part is needed as we can add more network connections to the NAS via a USB Wi-Fi dongle.

And that is what the next page is for, for your Wi-Fi settings. This will work the same way as you’re used to from any other wireless networking device. It can scan for and connect to available wireless networks in range.

File Services

The file services are probably the most important ones as they allow us to access the NAS via our local network. It supports Windows File Service, Mac File Service, and NFS Service for availability to basically any system.

On top of the basic network file sharing services, the F2-220 also comes with a basic-featured built-in FTP server.

Telnet, SSH, and SNMP

The Telnet tab contains both SSH and Telnet connection options with optional SFTP file transfer options for the SSH connection. My recommendation is that your turn Telnet off right away as it isn’t a secure protocol – that’s unless you have other devices that rely on it.

An SNMP feature is also built into the NAS for reports on the system information to the administrators.

Web Server

Even if you don’t run a public website from this NAS, having a web server can be of great benefit. It allows businesses to run web-based programs in the safety of their own network.

And for those who need it publicly, there’s support for virtual hosts too.

Discovery Service

The last network service is the UPnP discovery service which you either can enable or disable.
