Not Enough Steam Deck Storage? Use a 61.44TB Enterprise SSD To Solve Your Problems

Upgrading the Steam Deck’s storage is a rather simple task with a good range of options using either a micro SD card or an M.2 SSD in the 2230 form factor although current technology limits the latter to just 2TB. If you’re looking to never have any performance woes, at least until COD 2030 inevitably comes out with a 1 Petabyte file size, then equip your Steam Deck with a 61.44 TB Enterprise SSD as the team at Storagereview.com has done.

61.44 TB SSD In A Steam Deck

The Solidgm P5336 61.44TB Enterprise SSD is a monster of an SSD that is of course designed for large businesses and is far from being something the general consumer will be using. This of course doesn’t stop people from using it outside of its intended purpose such as with the Steam Deck. Storagereview has taken their Solidgm P5336, which uses the U.2 form factor and made use of an M.2 to External U.2 Adapter and Icy Dock enclosure to use this monumental drive with the Steam Deck. Now it wasn’t quite as simple as that as the M.2 slot is unable to power the drive so you do need to make use of an external ATX power supply to power the drive which does reduce the portability of this solution.

Beyond the power supply, the actual execution of this operation was said to be “surprisingly straightforward and uncomplicated”. The 61.44TB drive seamlessly works with the Steam Deck showing 55.7TB free on the storage menu of the deck.

This is of course brilliant and ridiculous only serves as proof that the Steam Deck is very flexible with its storage despite its physical limitations. Until the 2230 form factor is capable of housing more than 2TB, users of the Steam Deck and other handhelds will have to hold on for more storage unless they fancy some dodgy engineering work to expand it.
