Installation was as simple as plugging them in, but you’ll need the app if you want anything beyond a bright white light. Annoying the app has seemingly endless devices, and there’s no clear indication of which one I needed. It turns out it was Light Source (Wi-Fi) even if the picture looks nothing like the product.
One thing I must stress, you need 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for it to work, although my router is dual-band so that’s no issue. Once you’re in, you can rename the lights, and use the colour wheel to pick settings.
You can set them to “rooms” and group them too, which is awesome if you’re using the “scene” functions.
However, the default home page gives you a quick power button, so you can easily toggle them on and off. However, pair them with Amazon or Google and you can use things like IFTTT, profiles, schedules, voice control and all that lovely stuff too!
The colour selection is excellent too, allowing fast and easy adjustment of saturation, brightness and hue.
OK, so these are meant to have a proper space and I don’t have it, I’ll admit, so keep in mind I’m setting these up in a way to demonstrate, now placed how I would place them permanently. You can see they’re throwing out a lovely warm white light, and you can see how powerful it is based on the shadows from my couch and speakers.
How about this stunning neon purple. I should say, it’s a bright day in here, so this is an impressive amount of colour and light!
The tones and hues are really vibrant and they really paint the wall with light.
Dazzled!
The richest colours have a big drop off in brightness, but that’s to be expected. You would not use these in the day, but they’ll add ambience in darker rooms.
Don’t be fooled though, it’s still bright, just not as much as the pure white mode.
It’s great having too as you can really mix up the colours. I love the shadows on the wall, I’ll go grab my 3D glasses!
They’re easily placed wherever you want, I can place them around my desk for something a bit whacky. Just keep in mind the power cables, as they take a little forward planning to deal with.
Or throw the behind my arcade machine, that looks pretty dope too.
If you’re really in the mood to be blinded, crank the up to white (or a warm white like I did!)
