Novostella RGB WiFi Flood Light Review – Ultimate RGB!?

How Much Does it Cost?

The Novostella RGB WiFi Flood Light is available now from Amazon for £79.99, although I’ve seen the price £10 higher than that, and £10 lower, so keep an eye out for the best deals! It’s a pretty decent price too, it may seem a little expensive, but keep in mind, you get two of them! Their range is huge though, and you can check their Amazon store here for other lighting/RGB products, there’s quite a few!

Overview

This is one of the most pointless things I’ve reviewed in a while, but I’ll be damned if I don’t love it! I already have RGB in my PC, and behind my TV, and Philips Hue lightbulbs everywhere else, but this is clearly something different. Being able to paint a whole wall with a direct colour is awesome and really adds an interesting dynamic to the room.

Of course, this is a multi-purpose lighting kit, as it can be used indoors and outside. I don’t think throwing RGB onto your driveway is any use to stop burglars. However, lighting up a tree, play house or something like that would look pretty cool, especially if you like to spend your evening chilling in the garden.

They’re good for normal lighting too, as they’re super bright with the white settings. You can adjust the white temperature to a good range too, giving you cooler whites up to some creamy warm lights to suit your needs. However, I’m most impressed by the colours, they’re really rich and vibrant, and the colour selection tool in the app is really simple and intuitive to use too. You can save multiple profiles, effects, transitions, timers, and so much more too.

The build quality is rock solid, the waterproof design means you can place them outside and they’ll survive the bad weather and the heat just fine. They have a built-in radiator on the rear, ensuring you can leave then running none stop without and issues of overheating. I actually had them running for ages, and they were warm to the touch, but that’s about it.

Should I Buy One?

If you’re looking for a bolder approach to lighting, this is a great solution. It’s going to apply light and colour to larger areas. It’s a lot more directional than a bulb, and even at 20W they’re mighty bright too. It’s bright enough to light up something the size of a garage door, living room wall, etc. However, if you wanted to light up the whole side of your house, the larger 60W models will be required. Fit them behind larger furnishings such as couches for a cool atmosphere, or on the floor pointing up a wall for a cool colour wash. No matter what, this is RGB to the MAX! If that’s what you need in your life, these are a bargain!
