Nvidia 4060 Rumoured For June Release – Performance on Par With the 3070?

Given the prohibitive cost of both the 4090 and 4080, for those of you still planning to go with Nvidia for your next GPU upgrade, we daresay that you’ve now probably resigned yourself to having to wait for lower-tier models in the series to arrive. And of these, the 4060 will undoubtedly represent one of the most tempting propositions.
It’s hardly any secret that the “60” variant of practically all Nvidia graphics card generations typically proves to be the biggest hit with consumers. Hell, you only have to look at the Stream Hardware Survey where the GTX 1060 has sat in the #1 spot for over 6 years now (with the 2060 firmly established in 2nd place).
With this in mind, therefore, when will the 4060 actually be released? – Well, following a report via Videocardz, Lenovo’s China gaming desktop product planning manager (quite the job title) has said that the 4060 should be set for release by June 2023, and in terms of performance, it looks to be roughly targeting (quite understandably) the 3070.

So yes, as above, saying that the 4060 will roughly perform on par with the 3070 is an entirely logical conclusion. This is, after all, typically what tends to happen with GPU models when it comes to comparative performance (up a generation, down a tier). – I would, therefore, suggest that the biggest takeaway news from this is that the 4060 might not be arriving as soon as many might’ve hoped.
Getting back to the performance though, while it’s being suggested that the 4060 will be roughly on par with the 3070, there is a factor hugely in favour of the next-gen model. Namely, DLSS3. – We’ve already seen just how huge the improvements are with this technology on the 4090 and 4080, and, with this in mind, it’s entirely possible (if not probable) that with DLSS3 enabled, the 4060 could leave the 3070 in the dust!
This is, however, all clearly just speculation at this point. If you were planning to get a Nvidia 4060 though, it looks like you’ve got at least a 6-month wait on your hands.
