Nvidia 4070 Ti Pricing Suggests Rebranded 4080 12GB Will Retain its $899 MSRP.

Nvidia certainly fooled no one when they unveiled the 4080 12GB. It was abundantly clear that the huge specification gap between this and the 16GB model went well beyond just the amount of VRAM they had, and, ultimately, consumers and critics could draw no other conclusion than Nvidia was only calling it a 4080 to warrant a higher price tag.

With Nvidia subsequently ‘unlaunching’ this GPU, however, it did clearly raise two big questions as to what future the SKU held. Namely, whether it was completely cancelled or whether they would simply rebrand it to a 4070 or 4070 Ti. And in regards to the latter, if the SKU was indeed going to be reutilised, would they keep the original $899 MSRP or lower it to be more reflective of the new tier?

Well, in this regard we seemingly got the answer earlier this month when leak sources stated that the GPU formerly known as the 4080 12GB would indeed be getting rebranded to the 4070 Ti. Same specifications, different name. – But what about the price?

Well, following a report via WCCFTech, retail information has appeared online from China suggesting that the $899 MSRP of the 4080 12GB is being kept for this newly rebadged 4070 Ti!

Nvidia 4070 Ti To Retain 4080 12GB MSRP?

We should start by noting that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti isn’t expected to be launched (well, technically relaunched) until January 3rd or very shortly after during CES 2023 (January 5th-January 8th). – With that being said, however, it seems that retailers in China are already prepping their websites ahead of the announcement and based on figures spotted, they’re currently listing the 4070 Ti for around $1,000.

Now, why is this important? Well, while I’ll openly concede that official MSRP values mean sod all these days, if it’s getting listed there for circa £1,000, this all but guarantees that Nvidia will retain the 4080 12GB $899 price tag on the now 4070 Ti.

Now, would you spend $900+ on a 4070 Ti? – I don’t think I would. And it’s hardly any secret that the 4080 16GB is barely moving at all. Overall, by failing to drop the price, Nvidia may, once again, be hitting a huge bum note with consumers on a product which had already left a sour taste in people’s mouths in the first place!
