Nvidia 4080 16GB Hits UK Retailer For Prices Starting at (Brace Yourself) £1,450!

While we’re still waiting for an official release date, it’s understood that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 16GB will be landing on retail shelves at some point around mid-November. – Now, with it offering performance well in excess of the 3090 Ti (by as much as 100%-200% according to Nvidia) there is understandably quite a lot of interest in the graphics card, it is perhaps most focused on whether it will actually manage to hold its £1,269 MSRP.
Well, following a report via Videocardz, it seems that UK retailer LaptopsDirect (link here) has already started listing a number of custom 4080 16GB GPUs, and the bad news is that it seems that rather than £1,269, it seems that we’re going to be looking at prices starting at around £1,450!
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 16GB
We should start by noting that Nvidia’s own reference version of the 4080 16GB will undoubtedly be available (albeit probably in very limited quantities) at its £1,269 MSRP. When it comes to custom models though, the initial news isn’t good as following the retailer listing three custom 4080 GPUs available from Palit the cheapest model available starts at £1,449.97. – So, basically £200 more than the base versions MSRP.
Now, let’s be honest, the official MSRP sounded bad enough, but if we can expect custom models to add another 10-20% onto that price tag, then the chances are that, rather than with the 30XX series where none were available to buy, the 4080 might ultimately end up being a GPU that most consumers couldn’t even hope to afford! – I mean, let’s be honest, you can buy an entire (and fairly potent) gaming PC for that price, let alone just a single GPU!
So, yeah… I don’t think the 4080’s going to be my next upgrade, but what do you think? – Let us know in the comments!
