Nvidia 4080 Scalpers Have to Resort to MSRP Prices as Retailers Refuse Refunds!

Coming clearly in the hope that the Nvidia 4080 graphics card would prove to be an exceptionally popular model with consumers, scalpers leapt in on release day and swiped a lot of the initial stock available. There were, however, two pretty huge problems that they didn’t anticipate.

Firstly, consumer interest in the 4080 has been pretty low with people either considering it overpriced or simply viewing the comparatively slightly more expensive 4090 as a far better alternative option. Secondly, stock for the Nvidia 4080 has actually been pretty decent. Yes, this has perhaps been compounded by the former, but given you can easily buy it right now. Supply levels, regardless of demand, are decent!

So, what do you do if you bought 10 Nvidia 4080s on release day that you were hoping to flip for a tidy profit? – Well, following a report via Videocardz, the situation is apparently so bad for scalpers that many are now resorting to listing their GPUs at the MSRP figure they initially paid out of fear that they might be set to actually lose money on them!

Nvidia 4080 Scalpers Start to Get Desperate!

We first heard indications late last month that Nvidia 4080 scalpers were struggling to move their stock on the second-hand market with figures suggesting that for every 4080 sold, roughly four 4090s were also finding new owners. At the time though, while 4080 prices had fallen sharply, there was no indication that the situation was so bad that scalpers would have to resort to effectively just trying to break even!

One particular factor that’s understood to be causing a lot of panic, however, is that some retailers are understood to be actually refusing the return of 4080 GPUs. And in regard to consumer rights, here in the UK you’re only technically legally entitled to a refund if a product is broken, faulty, not fit for purpose, or not as per description. – So, with this in mind, retailers are not mandated to provide refunds purely based on the fact that Johnny Scalper bought 8 of them and can’t subsequently flip them for a profit!

So yeah, in a nutshell, it seems 4080 scalpers are about to be taught a valuable lesson in consumer apathy. Given how most of us absolutely detest those people though, and particularly so for their actions throughout the 30XX series and the crypto craze, I daresay you won’t shed too many tears for them.
