NVIDIA and MediaTek Team Up to Eliminate G-Sync Modules in Next-Gen Gaming Monitors

NVIDIA has announced a significant partnership with MediaTek that promises to change the landscape of gaming monitors. The collaboration will integrate NVIDIA’s full suite of G-Sync technologies into MediaTek’s new scaler chip, eliminating the need for the dedicated G-Sync modules that have been standard since the technology’s introduction in 2013.

In a statement (thanks TheVerge), NVIDIA emphasized the impact of this partnership: “We are working with MediaTek to bring G-Sync to their market-leading monitor scalers. We will bring all the G-Sync technologies, including our most recent – Pulsar – to many more gamers.” This move is expected to make high-end gaming technology more accessible and cost-effective.

New G-Sync Monitors Announced

The first wave of monitors using this new technology includes the ASUS ROG Swift 360Hz PG27AQNR, Acer Predator XB273U F5, and AOC AGON PRO AG276QSG2. All of these models feature a 2560×1440 resolution, 360Hz refresh rate, and support for HDR, making them ideal for competitive gaming. These monitors also incorporate G-Sync Pulsar, NVIDIA’s latest advancement aimed at reducing motion blur and ghosting.

This partnership comes amid rumors that NVIDIA and MediaTek might also be collaborating on an Arm-based chip for AI PCs and potentially for handheld gaming devices. While these rumors remain unconfirmed, the partnership clearly signals NVIDIA’s intent to expand its influence in the tech world.

For gamers, this partnership could mean a broader selection of monitors with premium features at more affordable prices. The new monitors are expected to launch later this year, though specific release dates have yet to be announced.
