NVIDIA Announces RTX 40 SUPER Series Graphics Cards

NVIDIA has officially announced its RTX 40 SUPER series graphics cards including the RTX 4080 SUPER, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER and RTX 4070 SUPER all of which offering increased performance and the official return to the SUPER naming since 20 Series.

RTX 4080 SUPER

The RTX 4080 SUPER is the first of the new cards though will be the last to launch on the 31st of January at a price of $999. The card shrinks the large performance gap between the RTX 4090 and 4080 and features two times the performance of the RTX 3080 Ti. It boasts more cores and faster memory featuring 52 Shader Cores, 121 RT Cores and 836 Tensor cores all alongside 16GB of GDDR6X memory and a TGP of 320W.

NVIDIA Has also shared some performance numbers compared to the RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 2080 SUPER, though I think most of us are interested in how much more performance we are getting over the RTX 4080 which originally retailed for $200 more.

RTX 4070 Ti SUPER

The 4070 Ti SUPER is the first Ti card to receive a SUPER refresh which like the 4080 SUPER, boasts more cores but more memory with 16GB of GDDR6X over 12GB with the non-SUPER variant. It features 44 Shader Cores, 102 RT Cores and 706 AI Cores all within a 285W TGP which is the same as it’s non SUPER variant. The other thing this card shares with its non-SUPER counterpart is price which remains at $799, or some may consider this an unofficial price drop of the RTX 4080 which leaks have compared this to. The 4070 Ti SUPER launches some time before the RTX 4080 SUPER on the 24th of January.

NVIDIA pit this card against the previous generation RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 2070 SUPER with more than double the performance in several benchmarks, Of course DLSS 3 and frame generation plays a huge part in this performance.

RTX 4070 SUPER

The RTX 4070 SUPER is the last of the new cards but will be the first to hit the shelves on January 17th for $599, the same as its original version’s launch price. This card boasts 20% more cores than its non-SUPER counterpart with 36 Shader cores, 82 RT Cores, 568 AI Cores all paired up with 12GB of GDDR6X memory and an increased TGP of 220W. The 4070 SUPER is also the only card in this refresh that won’t be replacing its existing non-SUPER variant and will sell alongside the RTX 4070 which will receive a price cut to $549.

Like the other two cards, NVIDIA compared this card in benchmarks against it’s previous generation counterparts, the RTX 3070 and 2070 though I feel the 2070 SUPER would’ve made more sense.

Summary

  • RTX 4080 SUPER January 31st – $999
  • RTX 4070 Ti SUPER January 24th – $799
  • RTX 4070 SUPER January 17th – $599
