NVIDIA has officially acknowledged that the GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics cards will be extremely difficult to find on their release day, Thursday, January 30, 2025.
Tim Adams, the head of NVIDIA’s GeForce community, stated in a forum post that the company expects high demand for both GPUs. While NVIDIA and its partners are ramping up shipments to retailers, available stock could sell out quickly.

“We expect significant demand for the GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080,” Adams wrote. “We believe stock-outs may happen. NVIDIA & our partners are shipping more stock to retail every day to help get GPUs into the hands of gamers.”
The scarcity of these GPUs has already led some enthusiasts to camp outside Microcenter stores in the United States in hopes of securing one.
Some retailers and system builders have warned that certain RTX 5090 units may not be available until February and could even face weeks or months of delays. Additionally, buyers should not expect to find these GPUs at their suggested retail prices due to the high demand.
Pricing and Performance Expectations
The RTX 5090 is expected to deliver significantly better performance than the previous generation. Meanwhile, the RTX 5080, is designed for a wider audience but still promises a substantial performance boost over the RTX 40 series.
With the launch just around the corner, the big question is: will you try to get a new GPU immediately, or wait for better availability and pricing? Let us know in the comments below.
