Nvidia Confirms GTX 1070 Specifications

Nvidia Confirms GTX 1070 Specifications

Yesterday, we got our first leak of what the Nvidia GTX 1070 specifications might look like. Compared to our previous estimates, the leak was a bit disappointing as it showed the GTX 1070 as weaker than what we thought it would be and history has caused us to expect. Today, Nvidia has updated their GeForce website with the official specifications of the GTX 1070.

The official specifications for the card mirror what the leak already told us but with a bit more detail. The GP104-200 die will feature 1920 CUDA cores clocked at 1506 Mhz base and 1683 Mhz boost. This will give us the 6.5 TFLOPs of single precision performance. The 8GB of GDDR5 VRAM is clocked at 8 Gbps effective, giving a total of 256GB/s of memory bandwidth. The physical dimensions and cooler are the same as the GTX 1080 at 10.5 inches long. Compared to the GTX 1080, the TDP is dropped to 150W but the 8pin PCIe power connector remains.

We’re still missing the TMU and ROP count right now but I expect the leaks will be correct. With 25% of the GP104 cut out, there exists quite a sizable gap between the GTX 1080 and 1070, around 20-25% at least by my estimation. It will be interesting to see if the GTX 1070 will manage to beat the GTX 980Ti in real world games or not. Perhaps it may even beat the Titan X but that depends on how efficient Pascal is.
