Representing one of their truly surprising announcements at the GeForce RTX 40XX series launch, Nvidia confirmed the upcoming release of Portal RTX. A completely remastered version of the highly-popular title updated with masses of ray tracing and DLSS features. – Put simply, if you really wanted to stretch your GPU legs and impress some people, this was probably going to be the game to do it with!
With that being said, however, one thing Nvidia did not confirm was exactly when Portal RTX would be released. Well, with an official update, now they have! – Portal RTX will land on December 8th!
Nvidia will be hosting a showcase event on December 6th giving people a better look at Portal RTX in action before its December 8th release date. – And while this might sound like something to hugely look forward to, we should urge a little caution as with the confirmation of the official PC requirements, presuming you plan to use ray tracing, you’re going to need a fairly potent graphics card here for a playable experience.
Yeah, make no bones about it, presuming you want to play this at the max 4K ultra settings, Nvidia is recommending a minimum of a 4080 GPU. And even then, it seems that it’s going to need to utilise DLSS 3 to give you a fairly solid framerate.
Yes, a 3060 isn’t too bad in terms of minimum requirements, but with the 20XX series graphics card not even getting a mention, overall, it seems pretty clear that the original DLSS isn’t going to cut it here in Portal RTX.
Portal RTX is set for release on December 8th and we can confirm that this will be offered as a free update to those who own the original title. – Presuming you don’t own it, however, and would like to learn more, you can check out the game’s official Steam Store page via the link here!
