Another really fascinating announcement from NVIDIA’s press briefing today revolves around VRWORKS and the development of path traced audio. According to NVIDIA, this is the world’s first acoustically-based physics engine and works alongside the optics API to revolutionise the way we all enjoy VR content. This huge update allows haptic controllers to communicate with the company’s PhysX engine and have a greater synergy between audio and video sources. More specifically, the audio engine is separated from the video segment to provide a more immersive user experience. While not much was shown of this technology, it’s a fascinating development and I can’t wait to try it out for myself.
