NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti AOTS Benchmarks Surface

Rumour persists of an upcoming NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti, although many are still not convinced. However, benchmarks have surfaced at the Ashes of the Singularity database showing the card’s performance. Since Ashes of the Singularity keeps benchmark on their database, we can compare the performance with relative cards. Using the Extreme preset which sets the resolution to 1440p, the score is 6200. The CPU introduces no possible bottlebeck here considering the system is running an Intel Core i9-7900X. This puts it within range of what the GTX 1070 cards get which is usually 5900 up to 6300 overclocked, and almost indistinguishable from a GTX 1080.

What else do we know so far about the GTX 1070 Ti?

The launch date is on October 26, with actual store stock on the calendar a week after. The performance is expected to be close to a GTX 1080. It is using the same GP104 GPU but with 2432 stream processors instead of 2560. It will also be on a 256-bit memory interface but will be using a GDDR5 running at 8Gbps instead of a GDDR5X at 11 Gbps.

With memory supply problems, the use of GDDR5 makes sense for NVIDIA who has no shortage of GTX 1080 GPUs. They can wait for supplies to normalize but they will risk not selling any new cards. However, if they can create a new card they can sell off their GTX 1080 GPU supply, keeping their partners, system integrators and investors happy.  Its a win for everyone, although it might not be a clear win for consumers. According to the latest rumours, since the performance is close to the GTX 1080, NVIDIA might be locking the overclock on launch. Considering the expected MSRP is $70 less than the GTX 1080, this makes sense from a business stand point as well. Plus, it costs less than current RX Vega 56 retail prices.
