NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Allegedly Has an MSRP of $749

For those eagerly awaiting to hear the damage that the NVIDIA RTX 4070 will do to your wallet you can stop waiting as the price for the new RTX 4070 has supposedly been leaked by Moore’s Law is Dead with a reference model MSRP of $749.

NVIDIA RTX 4070 Review Embargo

This price of $749 that has been revealed is only the MSRP for the “reference model” of these cards and it was revealed yesterday in embargo information leaked by VideoCardz for the 4070 that NVIDIA will be splitting the embargo between MSRP cards and Premium non-MSRP cards. The embargo dates shown are for April 12th for the MSRP cards with non-MSRP cards dropping the following day April 13th which is also the day we will see the 4070 hit the shelves. These non-MSRP cards are said to be priced starting at $799 which is the MSRP of the 4070ti.

The plan for NVIDIA is to promote the MSRP cards more than the pricier factory overclocked designs from AIB partners, why NVIDIA is doing this I’m not sure but they definitely have their reasons.

RTX 4070 Pricing

The MSRP of this card at Reference is $50 lower than the TI variant for a lower clock speed and fewer cores but this price is also around $250 higher than the previous generation RTX 3070 though the price can be explained by the performance expectations and competition. The 4070 is expected to sit somewhere between the 3080 and 3080ti which when in stock can cost within the range of this MSRP. This card also has no competition from AMD just yet as we haven’t heard anything about the 7800XT which based on the 7900xt pricing should be set to match the 4070 in price. These prices aren’t set in stone yet as they are just leaks so they could change when it comes to releasing to a slightly more stomachable price though I do doubt it.

RTX 3080s on Newegg go for around $799 to over $1000 so the 4070 being a performance equivalent will still end up priced lower at least for its MSRP models.

RTX 4070 Specs

From the information shared at VideoCardz the RTX 4070 is expected to be using the same GPU as the 4070 TI, AD104 but features fewer cores. The 4070 is set to feature 5888 Cuda Cores which is 1792 less than the TI variant and a reduced base clock from 2310 to 1920MHz. Not all specs are being reduced as the card will feature the same 12GB of GDDR6x memory across a 192-bit bus as the TI. Of course, the 4070 is also expected to be less power-hungry with a 200W TGP as opposed to the TI’s 285W TGP.

$749 for a mid-range card, is just insane pricing and just tells me that the 4060, an entry-level card will be priced awfully. With there still being performance equivalent 3080/3080ti’s on the shelves NVIDIA can’t quite fully undercut themselves with this card just yet and It will be a good while before the market recovers and not just for GPUs.
