Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 Founders Edition Review
3DMark Port Royal

3DMark Port Royal is a benchmarking tool specifically designed to measure the ray tracing performance of graphics cards. As the world’s first dedicated real-time ray tracing benchmark for gamers, it provides a realistic and practical example of what to expect from ray tracing in games.

In Port Royal, we see some notable performance gains over the previous generation, with the RTX 5080 scoring 18% higher than the RTX 4080 SUPER and delivering a 24% improvement over the non-SUPER variant. However, the 5080 still sits below the RTX 4090, trailing by 15%, which highlights the continued dominance of NVIDIA’s flagship. Since this benchmark focuses on ray tracing, the results also reflect NVIDIA’s advanced ray tracing technologies, which maintain a clear edge over the competition. That said, AMD’s RX 7900 XTX performed surprisingly well, coming in just behind the RTX 4080. Despite this, the RTX 5080 outperforms the 7900 XTX by a substantial 37%, a result that gives us a strong indication of what to expect in ray tracing performance during game testing. Overall, the RTX 5080 showcases impressive progress but this is only a synthetic test and we need to see what that means in terms of raytracing in games.
