An Nvidia GPU Steals the First Spot in Steam’s Latest Hardware Survey

If you’re curious to find out what are the most popular graphics cards among Steam users as of December 2015, then you’ll be glad to know that Steam has recently updated its latest hardware survey, and the results are not necessarily that surprising. It’s true that the previous hardware survey placed Intel’s HD Graphics 4000 as the most popular GPU choice, but the new data places Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 970 as the winner, as it is installed in 4.89 percent of Steam users’ machines. It’s also interesting to note that almost all integrated GPU solutions have declined in popularity over the last four months, which means that more PC owners are moving to dedicated graphics cards for their gaming needs.

The list of the most popular DirectX 11 GPUs is occupied mostly by Nvidia graphics cards while the HD7900 is the only Radeon product that made the cut at number 9. After Intel’s HD Graphics 4000 that sits at number 2, the third spot is occupied by the GTX 760, the fourth by the 750 Ti and the fifth by the GTX 960. Only one high-end Nvidia card made the list, however, and that’s the GTX 980 with just 1.08 percent of Steam users owning one. The list is composed of 54.61 percent Nvidia GPUs, 26.33 percent AMD GPUs and 18.66 Intel solutions. When it comes to screen resolutions, 35.15 of users still prefer 1080p while just 1.28 percent use 2560 X 1440. Only 0.7 percent of Steam users game in 4K.
