With only a few days to go until the Nvidia reveal event, more leaks are surfacing for the GTX 1060. Based off of the GP106 die, the new Pascal GPU is reportedly set to arrive with 1280 shaders with 3 to 6GB of GDDR5 over a 192bit bus. Today, we’re getting more images for the reference model of Nvidia’s mainstream option.
First off, we have the GTX 1060 reference models, likely to be called the Founders Edition. Aesthetically, it shares a lot of similarities with the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 Founders Edition models. The design is a bit simpler though with fewer things going on. The PCB is also noticeably shorter and the card also lacks a backplate. The card features DVI-D, 3x DisplayPort and one HDMI which are plenty for display options. Power is provided by a single 6pin PCIe power connector.
The big downer is the lack of an SLI finger, meaning no SLI support. This sort of confirms earlier rumours that the 3GB variant of the card would lack SLI while the 6GB variant would support it. It looks like even the 6GB variant won’t support SLI either, likely to keep the card from challenging the GTX 1080. This is very disappointing as using 2 budget cards in-sync to gain better performance per dollar is a major part of SLI/Crossfire and DX12 Multi-Adapter.
What do you think of the GTX 1060 lacking SLI?
