NVIDIA GTX 1080 Reportedly 50% Faster Than the GTX 980Ti

While we already know that NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1080 is faster than both the GTX 980Ti and the mighty Titan X, is capable of up to 200fps, and can outperform two GTX 980s in SLI, new reports suggest that the GTX 1080 blows the GTX 980Ti out of the water, boasting speeds of up to 50% more.

Calculations by Dark Side of Gaming, which extrapolate comparative speeds from various benchmarks from NVIDIA and PCGamer, point to the GTX 1080 being capable of speeds 1.5x faster that the powerful GTX 980Ti.

“The performance gap between the GTX 980 and the GTX 980Ti is almost 20%,” writes Dark Side of Gaming’s John Papadopoulos. “This basically means that if NVIDIA’s figures are anything to go by, the GTX 1080 is 50% faster than the GTX 980Ti in The Witcher 3.”

“What’s also interesting here is that we are most likely looking at a 1.75X performance increase compared to the GTX 980,” Papadopoulos writes. “NVIDIA claimed that it was 2X, but that won’t be the case in real tests/benchmarks (as showcased by both Rise of the Tomb Raider and The Witcher 3).”

“The performance difference – according to a lot of benchmarks – between the GTX 980Ti and the GTX 980 is around 20-30%,” he adds. “Therefore, the GTX 1080 can be – according to NVIDIA’s figures – up to 50% faster than the GTX 980Ti in extreme situations (we expect an average of 40% performance boost).”
