The Nvidia GTX 650 is going to be a very interesting card for gamers. Replacing the GTX 550Ti at that really affordable price point of around £110 that should still allow you to game with most settings at medium or high on a 1080p panel. According to the new pictures it looks like Nvidia will make the GTX 650 from the same silicon (GK107) and PCB as the GT 640. Except the GTX 650 will be endowed with GDDR5 memory whilst we saw the first GT 640 castrated by a GDDR3 bottleneck that left it slower than the GTS 450.
The Nvidia GTX 650 gets a black PCB and a single 6 pin PCI-E power connector. This is interesting because the GT 640 which also has a TDP of 65W like the GTX 650, had no additional power connectors. This would suggest Nvidia has encouraged its partners to overclock these cards and give them custom cooling hence the need for some additional power. The GeForce GTX 650 packs 384 CUDA cores (but note this is not the same CUDA architecture as newer Kepler cards), 16 ROPs, and a 128-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 1 GB of memory. It is said to feature similar GPU clock speed to the GT 640, a lack of GPU Boost, but with 5.00 GHz GDDR5 effective memory clock, compared to the 1800 MHz GDDR3 memory the GT 640 has, performance will be a lot higher.
It is expected to launch September the 12th for a yet to be announced price.
